Q: Who are the Volunteer Vixens?
A: The Volunteer Vixens are women who volunteer their time to work at Dragon*Con in Atlanta over Labor Day weekend. After being in the calendar two or three consecutive times, the girls will rotate out. However, once you are a Vixen, you are always a Vixen. Even after your time modeling is over, you are welcome to come back and help the new models with your experience and skills.

Q: Who can be a photographer?
A: The phrase "Don't fix what isn't broken," fits well here. Our current photographers work well the girls, and are generally awesome. We have to two main photographers (one of whom doubles as our webmaster), and about four backup photographers. We get more requests to be a photographer than we do to be a Vixen. In short, our photography staff is full.

Q: Who can be a model?
A: Women, age eighteen or older, who have already worked for Dragon*Con at least one year, and will be able to work the year of her calendar shoot. A warning to you girls that are interested: being a Volunteer Vixen is not all sunshine and lollipops. We don't get to just show up and look pretty. The calendar requires a model to put forth time, money, and effort. We are a team, and we depend on each other to get the calendar published on time.

Q: Who can be involved?
A: Anyone can help with location scouting or props and such. We always need a few good ideas. :)

Q: What is the calendar?
A: A twelve month wall calendar that features women in thirteen full color pictures. The theme changes every year, while staying true to our geeky roots. Who doesn't love a geek girl?

Q: What does the calendar cost?
A: Twenty Dollars.

Q: What else is for sale besides calendars?
A: Portraits (close-up shots) of each girl that you can get signed along with the calendar if you like.

Q: What cause is this supporting?
A: The Volunteer Vixens support the same charity that Dragon*Con supports, which for 2007 is the American Diabetes Association.

Q: When did the calendar start?
A: It all started on Tybee Island... in a hot tub. I remember one of the guys jokingly said that 'since we have all these pretty girls on staff, we should start a calendar.' That's when we all started jumping up and claiming our months like rabid ferrets. It being a joke and all, we thought it might have a pirate theme, and we'd call it The Wenches of Dragon*Con. Afterward we actually got serious about it and started brain storming on themes...as well as names, and here we are today!

Q: When do we do photo shoots?
A: When our schedules coincide. All photo shoots are closed. Only the photographers, models, and stage hands (so to speak) are allowed at the shoots . This prevents distractions, and anyone wanting to take pictures for their own profit. The portraits and the calendar are being sold to benefit charity. If someone already has three of the prints being sold, it decreases the amount we can donate.

Q: When do we pick girls for the calendar?
A: After each Dragon*Con, we will review applications that can be filled out on our site.

Q: When do we print the calendars?
A: To ensure the calendars are available before the convention, we send the calendar to the printer by early July.

Q: When do calendars go on sale?
A: Pre-orders will be up soon, but next year they will be up much sooner.

Q: When do we decide what the theme of the calendar/ each month will be?
A: After the convention we have a meeting to throw out our ideas. The ideas are voted on as a group. We plan out our schedule for meetings, and photo shoots that way as well. The Volunteer Vixens are very group oriented. We're like a pack of weird sisters... or something like that. :)

Q: Where can I buy the calendar?
A: Calendars will be available at the Dragon*Con store as well as our on-line store. Pre-orders will be available, or you can buy the calendar at Dragon*Con.

Q: Where do the photographers/models live?
A: Can't tell you guys that, but thanks for the interest... I think.

Q: Where does the money go?
A: To a charity of the Vixen's choosing each year. We are currently donating toward breast cancer research.
